From the last travel article published, we looked at Greece. This time, let’s take a look at Hungary.
Hungary is in Central Europe where hot springs and thermal waters abound. It has more than 1,000 hot springs which feature beautiful architecture from Greek, Roman and Turkish. Hungarians developed their bathing culture more than 2,000 years ago, and they believed on the healing effects of thermal baths.
Here are some of the hot springs you wouldn’t want to miss when you visit Hungary:
Lake Hévíz
Lake Hévíz located near the south-west corner of Lake Balaton is the 2nd largest thermal lake in the world. The strong flow of water in the lake replaces its water every day. Tourists visit the place because of its reported benefits in easing rheumatic diseases and locomotor disorders.
Cave Baths of Miskolctapolca
Cave Baths of Miskolctapolca is located near Miskolc, Northern Hungary. The thermal spring within the natural cave is believed to reduce joint pain. Visitors can also enjoy pools and a sauna park outside the cave.
Szechenyi Medicinal Bath
The Széchenyi Medicinal Bath in Budapest, Hungary is known as the largest medicinal bath in Europe with two thermal springs supplying it. The thermal water composed of sulphate, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, fluoride acid and metaboric acid which makes it suitable for treating joint illnesses and inflammations.
Egerszalók
Egerszalók is situated in Heves County in northeastern Hungary which is an open-air spa and village. An aquifer under the volcanic Matra Mountains supplies mineral water to the spring.
Gellért Bath
Gellért Baths are bath complex in Budapest, Hungary which are small pools that contain water from Gellért hill’s mineral hot springs. The mineral-rich water is known to cure joint illnesses, spine problems, inflammations, circulatory disturbances, asthma and bronchitis problems.
