SynapTree Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 12, 2026

Overview

SynapTree is a narrative architecture tool for macOS developed by Overpass Ltd. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data SynapTree collects (very little) and how it is handled.

Data We Do Not Collect

SynapTree does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. Specifically:

  • No analytics or usage tracking
  • No crash reporting to third-party services
  • No user accounts or login required
  • No advertising or ad tracking
  • No cookies or web beacons
  • No access to your contacts, photos, camera, or microphone

Data Stored Locally

SynapTree stores the following data on your Mac only:

  • Your story maps (.synaptree files) are saved wherever you choose on your local filesystem.
  • App preferences (theme selection, window position, Pro purchase status) are stored in the macOS UserDefaults system on your device.
  • Autosave data is stored temporarily in your application support directory and is only accessible to SynapTree.

All of this data remains on your device and is never sent to Overpass Ltd or any third party.

In-App Purchases

SynapTree offers an optional one-time in-app purchase (“Ancient Oak Pro”) through the Mac App Store. All purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple through their StoreKit framework. Overpass Ltd does not receive, process, or store any payment information. For details on how Apple handles purchase data, please refer to Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Third-Party Services

SynapTree does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. The only external service interaction is with Apple’s StoreKit for processing in-app purchases.

File Imports and Exports

When you import files (Markdown, OPML, FreeMind) or export your story maps (PNG, PDF, SVG, Markdown, OPML), all processing happens locally on your device. No file data is uploaded to any server.

Children’s Privacy

SynapTree does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. Since SynapTree does not collect personal data from any user, there are no specific child-related data concerns.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Since SynapTree does not collect user data, we have no way to notify you directly of changes — please check back periodically.
